Dan Canham & Ania Varez – Incantation

Incantation is a collaboration between filmmaker Dan Canham, dance artist Ania Varez and composer Benji Bower.  A short dance film that uses dance to conjure the past and future ghosts of a place. An act of imagination, A ritual of remembering.

Dan Canham

Dan Canham is an award-winning choreographer, theatre and filmmaker with over 19 years in the industry.

Having performed for 10 years with some of the UK and Ireland’s most celebrated theatre and dance companies, in 2011 he created his own company Still House, alongside working as a movement director on a range of projects with other people.

Key projects as movement director include The Odyssey: Episode 5 - The Underworld (Public Acts -National Theatre), Jane Eyre (National Theatre/Bristol Old Vic), A Monster Calls (Old Vic/Bristol Old Vic) and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Leeds Playhouse/Eliot Harper).

Past Still House productions include 30 Cecil Street, Ours Was the Fen Country, Of Riders & Running Horses and SESSION with touring that includes Australia, China, Canada and throughout Europe.

Dan is a prolific filmmaker - making heart-full works ranging from documentaries to dance films and promos.

He also regularly leads workshops and classes in theatre and dance for dance organisations, Universities, theatres and festivals across the world.

Ania Varez

Ania Varez is a Venezuelan artist based in Bristol. Their work changes all the time and moves across different mediums, with a strong emphasis on movement and poetry. They often address experiences of migration, grief, and queerness.

Ania believes that making art with people is one of the nicest ways of being together, changing the world, and sharing hope.
